How living plants get to you, what we promise when they arrive, and how returns work for planters and tools.

When your order ships
Live plants leave the greenhouse only on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday so they never sit in a closed depot over a weekend. An order placed Thursday through Sunday ships the following Monday. Planters and tools ship within 1 to 2 business days on their own if your order has both.
Between November and March we add a heat pack to any box heading somewhere below 40°F, and in summer we add a cold pack above 85°F. If the forecast along the route is dangerous for plants, we'll hold your order for a few days and email you so you know what's happening.
Arrive-Alive guarantee
If your plant arrives damaged, or declines within 30 days of delivery, email a photo to hello@understoryplant.shop with your order number. We'll send a free replacement, or a refund if you prefer. You don't need to send the plant back.
A few dropped leaves or a bent stem after the trip are normal and not a sign of a problem; most plants settle in within a week or two. The guarantee covers plants cared for roughly as described on their care card. It doesn't cover plants that were repotted into containers without drainage and overwatered, or left outdoors.
Planters and tools
Unused planters and tools can be returned within 30 days of delivery for a refund of the item price. Email us first and we'll send you a return label; the cost of the label ($9.95) is deducted from your refund. If a planter arrives cracked or chipped, send us a photo within 7 days and we'll replace it at no cost.
Glazed ceramics are handmade, so small variations in glaze, color and size between pieces are part of their character and aren't considered defects.
Refund timing
Refunds go back to your original payment method through Stripe within 2 business days of approval. Depending on your bank, it can take 5 to 10 business days to appear on your statement.
